9/6/07 Eastlake Titans vs. Torrey Pines Falcons Freshman Football
Great defense and ball control offense propelled the Falcons to a convincing 22-6 victory over the Eastlake Titans in their opener of the 2007 football season. From the first play, it was quite clear which would be the better team today. For many boys, this was their first game ever of organized football. The Falcons shook off some opening jitters by the offense and quickly took control with relentless defense. Standouts on the defensive front Scott Mainquist, Spike Carlisle, Keith Jackson, and Harry Wilburn made it difficult for the Titans to gain much ground and the linebacker trio of JT Stratigopoulos, Kevin Cuff, and CJ Vafiadis helped limit the visitors to only two first downs the entire afternoon. In fact, the majority of the Titans' drives actually lost yardage. The Falcons took advantage of seven turnovers and a good kicking game to gain and maintain field position throughout the game.
The Falcons scored on a safety and three touchdowns. One a beautiful pass from John Cabot to Scott Mainquist and the other two on rushes by Kevin Cuff and John Cabot. Hard running by Mitchell Yocom and Victor Pontis were also highlights. The effort on the offensive line was commendable and the boys wore down the opposition. Quite impressive was the offense going on an eight minute 80 yard drive to begin the second half. The drive consumed most of the third quarter and effectively put the game away. The Titans only points came on special teams on a muffed punt with only two minutes left in the game.
Great job, Falcons! On to next week - Beat the Marauders!
