9/13/07 Mira Mesa Mauraders vs. Torrey Pines Falcons Freshman Football

Strong defense and an explosive offense meant victory for the Falcons for the second straight week.   The defense was solid as the Mauraders could not get anything going at all. The front eight were quite a wall that the opponent could not penetrate.   The defensive front of Scott Mainquist, Harry Wilburn, Spike Carlisle, Chris Van Datta and Keith Jackson made a number of tackles behind the line of scrimmage.   They were helped out by disciplined play of the linebacking corp of Kevin Cuff (interception), CJ Vafiadis, and JT Stratigopoulos (fumble recovery).   Mira Mesa had trouble moving the ball, gaining only three first downs the entire game.   A fumbled punt early gave the Mira Mesa team great field position deep in Falcon territory, but the Falcon defense again came up huge stopping them on downs.   The special teams chipped in with a blocked punt. The result was a 28-0 shutout victory.

The offensive barrage started out with a long run by Mitchell Yocom, and then John Cabot took over throwing two touchdown passes to Scott Mainquist and another to Mitchell Yocom.   The fourth score was by Kevin Cuff running it in, only one of a number of hard runs by Kevin throughout the game.   There were also nice receptions by CJ Vafiadis and John Wilson, and nice inside running by Victor Pontis.   The offensive line came prepared to play and put in a workmanlike afternoon as the Falcon offense moved effortlessly down the field (Daniel Murray, Chris Kim, Pablo Loza, Kevin Kim, Tyler Quirt, Ryan Thomson, Harry Wilburn).   Short gains and big plays were the order of the day as it was a great team effort.

Go Falcons!
